Saturday 21st May

Made it to the allotment again and spent over 3 hours there :)

planted some more runner bean plants that were desperate to be moved ,took down some sunflowers callum planted and put them in front of the shed and gave around the shed a good weed it needed it!!

Took lots of seeds down today dwarf french beans 3 different varieties of lettuce, spring onions and some radishes i dont really like growing things from seeds down there but thought  i'd give it a go see what happens i already have lettuce at home so nothing lost if it doesn't work

Friday 20th May

Quite pleased with myself actually got lots done at the allotment the past 2 days, yesterday i planted some cabbages and covered them with netting ,then on to more weeding and watering.
Today i decided give the shed another coat of wood preserve stuff it looks much better now though i did panic about doing the back of it as it's near the hedge and i was worried about rats being there!!
Im planning on going down again tomorrow i'll have to take callum again so not sure how much I'll actually get done ,but hoping to plant dwarf french beans from seed and make a salad bed for lettuce spring onions and radishes . i picked up the french been seeds this week after telling myself no more veg but i couldn't resist :)  id really like to try sweetcorn too i see others have it but i'll leave that for next year
Also tomorrows plan is to sort out netting on the strawberries plant my runner bean plants ,one last thing is to take lots of pics everything has grown so much since last months big update so if i get chance ill take some :)

Sunday 8th May

Spent yesterday sewing holes in my netting its debris netting and has tiny holes that need to be stitched to stop any unwanted critters getting in you will see it soon when it goes on the frame
Today i went to the allotment and built a frame for the cabbages and cauliflowers ,still not sure how I'm going to net the brussels build a frame or not is the question they defiantly need netting with this stuff i have ...I'm sure ill work it out

After that we built a cold frame Pete wasn't impressed said it had gaps ... that's the whole point as I'm not there every day to lift the glass when it gets hot it will only be there for a couple of weeks it's for my courgette as it has grown way too big for the greenhouse

pleased to report my potatoes are doing just fine :)

6th may

Went to the allotment on Monday this week with callum as a frost was predicted so rushed there to cover up 5 rows of potatoes with fleece ,as we were doing it a lady from a nearby plot came over and asked about a frost as she had seen us fleecing told her a bad one was due on Tuesday she thanked me and said she would return on Tuesday to fleece hers ....

Didn't manage to get there until Wednesday and was very shocked by what i saw everyones potatoes had shriveled and turned black rushed to mine and uncovered them the frost has nipped the leaves in a few places but seem to have got away with major damage although other peoples will regrow it will be a small late crop for them keeping fingers crossed mine will be ok
Went today and the lady came over and said she had returned that night she spoke to us as she was worried about the low temperatures said thanks as hers had survived too with just being nipped at the leaves  just awful to see the damage everything else on my plot seems fine :)
Spent an hour there today weeding sat down as my back is sore today but better than yesterday was shocked to see big fruits forming on my strawberries best hurry now and get them netted

Sunday 1st may

Not much time spent at the allotment this week been down to do a bit of weeding and yesterday me and callum went to sprinkle a bit of lime where the brassicas are going as its a little acid pete made an appearance and finally sorted out the shed
Today i took callum again he spent ages tidying the shed whilst i planted the new blackberry bush lochness another thornless variety fingers crossed this one doesn't die on me!!

Next i planted the rest of my peas that i started off at home in loo rolls think there are around 40 plants now all growing nicely

After that we decided to leave it was too windy and i was sick of the sandy soil blowing in my eyes !! took a pic of the potatoes before we left which ill have to cover this coming week looks like a couple of chilly nights ahead i don't want to take the risk

finally parsnips and a strawberry plant
